  2. Rejection 1

I’m on a quest of sorts, to accumulate as many rejection letters in the short time I have left as a sub-30 year old. Actually, I want to get published, but I haven’t been practicing my craft enough, so I’ll settle for the mad dash rejection spree. I got my first last night, from Clarkesworld, and I have now submitted the story to Fantasy. I figure I will work the online markets first, then hit the print ones. Maximize rejection oppurtunities in the month I have left. This also means I only have one week to put the final touches on the next story I will be sending to Clarkesworld. Bam.

  3. So yesterday I submitted a short story to Clarkesworld, an online magazine. As I mentioned in my previous post, I haven’t submitted fiction for publication since I was 16. This was 14 years ago. 14 years ago, when you submitted fiction you had to lick an envelope, stuff the letter in the mailbox and forget about it for weeks or even months. Clarkesworld receives your submission electronically within seconds and fires back an auto response, letting you know things are in motion. Not only that, but they have an online tracking system which you can constantly refresh to see how many other stories are above yours in the slush pile. I’m not sure which is more stressful, the waiting endlessly or the clicking refresh. Blurg.
